Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 December 2025

This Privacy Policy explains how Sensia Connect Ltd ("Sensia", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data when you use our mobile app, website and related services (together, the "Services").

We are committed to handling your data in a way that feels clear, respectful and human. If anything in this policy feels confusing, you can contact us and we'll do our best to explain it in plain language.

1. Who we are

Company name: Sensia Connect Ltd
Registered office: Odeon Court, London, E16 4DU, United Kingdom
Company number: 16235079
Email for privacy matters: privacy@sensia-dating.com

For data protection law, Sensia Connect Ltd is the "data controller" of your personal data when you use our Services.

If you have questions about this policy or how we use your data, email: admin@sensia-dating.com.

2. Scope of this policy

This policy applies to:

  • Users of the Sensia mobile app
  • Visitors to our website (including waitlists and campaign landing pages)
  • People who contact us for support, feedback or partnership enquiries

It does not cover third-party apps or websites that you may access via Sensia (for example, venue websites, map apps or social media). Those services have their own privacy policies.

3. The data we collect

When you create and use a Sensia account, you may give us:

  • Values, interests, lifestyle details
  • Gender and pronouns
  • Sexual orientation (optional)
  • Ethnicity or cultural background (optional)
  • Other details you choose to include in your profile

Support & feedback

  • Information you provide when contacting support
  • Survey responses or feedback forms
  • Information you give when participating in research or testing (if you opt in)

3.2 Special category data (sensitive information)

Because Sensia is a dating app, some of the information you choose to share may be considered "special category data" under data protection law, for example:

  • Sexual orientation
  • Ethnicity or racial origin
  • Religious or philosophical beliefs (if you share them in your profile or messages)

We only process this type of information where you choose to provide it, and where you give explicit consent (for example via a clear toggle during onboarding or in Settings).

You can remove this information from your profile at any time and you can withdraw consent to use it for matching and personalisation (see section 9).

3.3 Information we collect automatically

When you use Sensia, we automatically collect:

  • Device identifiers (e.g. device model, operating system, app version)
  • IP address and approximate location (city/region level)
  • App usage data (screens viewed, buttons tapped, time spent)
  • Crash reports and performance data
  • Basic information about how you interact with notifications and emails

We use this to keep the app secure, fix bugs and understand what's working and what isn't.

3.4 Location data

With your permission, we may use your approximate location to:

  • Show people near you
  • Suggest date spots and venues in your area

We do not show your exact address to other users. You can control location access in your device settings and inside the app.

4. Why we use your data (and legal bases)

We only use your data where we have a valid legal reason. These are the main purposes and legal bases:

4.1 To provide and run the service – Contract

We use your data to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Build and show your profile to other users
  • Match you with other users based on your preferences and profile
  • Enable messaging, date planning and related features
  • Provide customer support and respond to your questions

Legal basis: performance of a contract (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).

4.2 To personalise your experience and use AI – Consent / Legitimate interests

We use certain data to:

  • Personalise your match recommendations
  • Improve the quality of suggestions from Sensia AI
  • Tailor in-app tips and guidance to your situation

Legal basis:

  • Explicit consent for special category data (e.g. orientation, ethnicity)
  • Consent for certain AI-driven personalisation and location use
  • Legitimate interests for some non-intrusive personalisation where appropriate (for example, ranking matches based on your stated preferences)

You can control these uses in Settings under "Privacy controls" and "AI & experience".

4.3 To keep Sensia safe – Legitimate interests / Legal obligation

We process data to:

  • Detect and prevent spam, fraud and abuse
  • Investigate reports and enforce our Community Guidelines
  • Protect users from harassment, hate speech or other harmful behaviour
  • Maintain platform integrity (e.g. detecting fake accounts or bots)

Legal basis:

  • Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f))
  • In some cases, legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c)) or protection of vital interests (Article 6(1)(d)), especially where there is risk of serious harm.

Some safety investigations may involve sensitive information that users have shared. We treat this with extra care and restrict access to those who need it.

4.4 To analyse and improve Sensia – Legitimate interests

We use aggregated, pseudonymised data to:

  • Understand how people use Sensia
  • Fix bugs and improve performance
  • Decide which features to improve or remove
  • Test new designs and flows

We do not use your messages or sensitive profile content to create public datasets or sell to advertisers.

Legal basis: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)), balancing our need to improve Sensia with your right to privacy.

4.5 Marketing & communications – Consent / Legitimate interests

We may use your contact details to:

  • Send service emails (for example, password resets, changes to this policy, important security notices)
  • Send optional:
    • Tips and guidance about dating and using Sensia
    • Product news, offers or promotions (if you opt in)

Legal basis:

  • Consent for marketing emails and push notifications, where required
  • Legitimate interests for essential service communications that are necessary for your account or security

You can change your email and push notification preferences any time in Settings or by using the unsubscribe link in emails.

5. How our AI works

Sensia uses AI systems to:

  • Interpret your onboarding answers and preferences
  • Suggest ways to describe yourself more clearly
  • Recommend potential matches based on compatibility
  • Offer message ideas, date suggestions and gentle check-ins

AI suggestions are just that: suggestions, not instructions or professional advice. You are always in control of what you say and do.

We provide more detail about how our AI and profiling work at: [link to /ai explanation page]. You have the right to object to certain types of profiling and to request a human review where decisions have a significant impact on you (see section 9).

6. When we share your data

We do not sell your personal data.

We may share your data with:

Service providers (processors)
Companies that help us run Sensia, such as:

  • Cloud hosting and database providers
  • Analytics and crash-reporting tools
  • Email and notification providers
  • AI infrastructure providers
  • Payment processors (if we offer paid features)
  • Identity verification or safety service providers (if used)

These providers can only use your data on our instructions and must protect it under data processing agreements.

Other users
Information you add to your profile (e.g. photos, bio, basics and preferences) is visible to other users according to your settings.

We never show your email address or private contact details to other users.

Professional advisers & legal authorities
We may share information with:

  • Lawyers, auditors and insurers where necessary
  • Law enforcement or regulators if required by law, court order or to protect someone's vital interests

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, we may transfer your data to the relevant third party as part of the transaction. Where possible, we will inform you of any such change.

7. International data transfers

Some of our service providers may be located outside the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area (EEA), for example in the United States.

When we transfer personal data internationally, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place, such as:

  • UK International Data Transfer Agreements (IDTA)
  • Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission
  • Other safeguards recognised under data protection law

You can contact us if you'd like more information about these safeguards.

8. How long we keep your data

We keep your data only for as long as we need it for the purposes described above, or as required by law.

Indicative retention periods (these may be refined over time):

  • Account & profile data: kept while your account is active. If your account is deleted or inactive for a long period, we delete or anonymise it within a reasonable timeframe (for example 12–18 months).
  • Messages: kept while accounts are active and for a limited period afterwards (for example 18–24 months), unless deleted sooner in line with our retention policy.
  • Sensitive profile information (e.g. orientation, ethnicity): stored only while relevant for matching and while you've given consent. If you withdraw consent or delete this from your profile, we stop using it and remove or anonymise it where possible.
  • Safety & moderation records: may be kept for longer (for example up to 6 years) where needed to protect users, prevent repeat abuse or comply with legal obligations.
  • Analytics & logs: stored for limited periods and then aggregated or anonymised whenever possible.

When data is no longer needed, we either securely delete it or irreversibly anonymise it.

9. Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have several rights in relation to your personal data.

Subject to certain conditions, you can:

Access
Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
In the app, you can use "Download my data" in Settings.

Rectification
Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
You can edit most of your profile in the app at any time.

Erasure ("right to be forgotten")
Ask us to delete your personal data.
You can delete your account in Settings; we then delete or anonymise your data in line with our retention rules.

Restriction
Ask us to restrict how we use your data in certain situations (for example while a complaint is being investigated).

Objection
Object to certain types of processing based on legitimate interests, including some profiling.
Object to direct marketing at any time.

Data portability
Request a machine-readable copy of certain data you provided to us so you can reuse it elsewhere.

Withdraw consent
Where we rely on consent (for example, special category data, AI profiling, certain marketing, or location), you can withdraw it at any time in Settings or by contacting us.
Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal, but we will stop the relevant processing going forward.

To exercise any of these rights, you can:

  • Use the relevant options in Settings, where available; or
  • Email us at privacy@sensia-dating.com with the subject line "Data rights request".

We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request. We aim to respond within one month.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you are unhappy with how we handle your data:

  • Website: ico.org.uk
  • Address: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF, United Kingdom

We would appreciate the chance to address your concerns first, so please contact us if you have any issues.

10. Children

Sensia is strictly for adults aged 18 and over.

We do not knowingly collect or process data from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will:

  • Close the account; and
  • Delete or anonymise the associated data as soon as reasonably possible.

If you believe a minor is using Sensia, please contact us at privacy@sensia-dating.com.

11. Security

We take security seriously and use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS / TLS)
  • Encryption at rest by our hosting providers
  • Role-based access controls and limited staff access
  • Multi-factor authentication for administrative tools
  • Regular monitoring and logging of suspicious activity
  • Vendor due diligence and contracts covering data protection

However, no system can be completely secure. We cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted via the internet, and you share data at your own risk. If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to result in a high risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you and the relevant authorities where required by law.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when:

  • We launch new features
  • We integrate new partners or vendors
  • The law or regulatory guidance changes

When we make significant changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last updated" date at the top; and
  • Notify you in the app or by email, where appropriate.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically so you stay informed about how we use your data.
